Bio

It is with great pleasure that I have returned to my home county after many years of absence. After graduating from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, I completed my family practice residency at Sutter Hospital of Santa Rosa. For the last six years prior to starting at Kaiser Santa Rosa in 2004, I had been practicing at a community health center in California's far north.

I look forward to working with my patients here to maintain both their physical and emotional health. I believe exercise, a healthy diet and a positive outlook on life are the cornerstones of good health. Please be aware that despite my osteopathic medicine training, I am currently not performing manipulative therapy.

I believe in being straightforward with all my patients, even if it means telling them some things they do not want to hear. My goal is not to antagonize, but to energize patients into taking a more active role in their health care.

Working at Kaiser Permanente offers me the ability to practice quality medicine without having to manage a practice, which are skills I was never taught in medical school anyway. My ability to deliver quality health care is also enhanced by easy access to our excellent specialty services when indicated.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

I chose Family Medicine because of my desire to provide comprehensive and long term care. People may see a specialist once or twice, but their relationship with their family physician can last a lifetime. Being a doctor is so rewarding to me because it allows me to make a positive impact on other peoples lives and provides a very challenging and satisfying career.

Interests

I am a novice but enthusiastic abalone diver, and even if I don't find any abalone, I love paddling along our beautiful coast. On my second abalone dive I found a 10 1/8 inch monster hiding under a rock. You've got to love beginner's luck!

Family & Friends

People in my life:

My wife, Kim, grew up in Sonoma county as well, although we didn't meet until I had moved up to Eureka, California. She is the love of my life and a wonderful partner.

My children and people I care about:

We currently have two sons, Paxton and Liam. A third son, yet to be named is due soon.

My pets:

Kanoe (shepard/lab mix) and Bailey (beagle/terrier). Needless to say Kanoe is loyal to a fault and Bailey is ruled by her sense of smell.

Travel

An adventure I've had:

My most exciting trip was with my wife on our honeymoon when we went to Fiji and New Zealand, both beautiful countries with very friendly people. The diving on Fiji was out of this world!

Favorite place in the world:

This may sound provincial, but Sonoma county is our favorite place. Where else can you find a combination of our weather, redwoods, ocean and great outdoor activities in one place?
