Bio

I have been a pediatrician for 30 years. I was born in a displaced persons camp in Germany, with a heart defect. I came to the USA at age 2. Because of my heart problem, a loud murmur, I was listened to by medical students as a child. At age 5, I had corrective heart surgery and my desire to be a pediatrician was established.

I believe in good communication and therefore give my office phone to my patients. I also am interested in alternative medicine and will consider herbal treatments when appropriate.

My hobbies are reading, travel and tennis. I am married with 3 children.

After my own intense contact with doctors as a child, I grew up believing nothing could be more important than helping children.

I am interested in learning disorders and alternative medicine.

Current projects or research:

I run the speakers program for the Pediatrics department. I am also on the Maternal Child Health Advisory Board for the Sonoma County Board Of Supervisors.

People in my life:

My wife, Robin, and I have been married 20 yrs. She is a pianist and teacher. She loves horseback riding. She also loves children.

My children and people I care about:

My youngest daughter, Elizabeth, is an actress in L.A. My son, Aaron, is a violist in LA where his new bride has just started Medical School. My oldest daughter, Rebecca, is an attorney who has been traveling the world prior to a planned career in the FBI.

An interesting story about my family or friends:

One of my best friends from childhood became president of the Boston Red Sox so our family has had many exciting baseball moments since.

We have a dog, Puck, a border collie-doberman pound rescue. We also have 2 cats: Taiao, a Berman and Coco, a Siamese. We also have 10 canaries in outdoor aviary. My wife also has an Arabian horse named Caliper.

Travel

An adventure I've had:

I was rescued from a mountain in Switzerland; my camera bag catching on a rock saved my life until help arrived.

Favorite place in the world:

St John USVI. It is 65% national Park. Speed limit is 15 mph. Best beaches in world.

One of my recent trips:

We went to a Red Sox game in Fenway Park and sat in my friend's box with Katie Couric, Sen. Joseph Biden and Steven Tyler of Arrowsmith.
