Bio

I view medicine as teamwork - we will work together to meet your current and future medical goals. I am committed to ensuring that your unique health care needs are met by myself and our excellent support services and staff. Our goal at Kaiser Permanente is to be your health plan of choice and deliver the quality medical care you and your family deserve. I provide adult care, pediatric care and gynecologic care.

I joined Kaiser Santa Rosa as a primary care physician in 1988. I received my Medical Degree at the University of Pittsburgh and completed my Family Practice Residency Training at UCSF/SFGH. While in San Francisco I learned to appreciate the diversity of our population and the unique aspect of each person. Whether it was working in the Refugee Clinic, helping open the first AIDS Ward in the nation, or having my own patients in a Family Practice Clinic, those experiences helped me appreciate the needs and challenges of each individual.

After working with Kaiser Permanente for over 15 years, I still enjoy the individualized care that I can provide. The world is changing; medical care is changing; and helping you keep up with that change is challenging. That challenge involves fully informing you of options and possibilities and working together as a team.

The TOP 5 REASONS I love to work at Kaiser Permanente:

#5 Sonoma County can't be beat.

#4 The hospital and clinic facilities are great.

#3 Secure Message e-mails are great! Make sure you have signed up for your password.

#2 Fabulous support staff.

#1 I have the best patients in town!

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

Two ancient quotes I heard recently highlight my feelings about medical care in this complex world of ours. "Never forget that your patient is a fellow creature in pain, not a mere vessel of disease", from Maimonides, a 12th century physician-philosopher. And "Core Values of Medicine: to cure sometimes, to releive often, to comfort always", from an anonymous 16th century physician.
Family Practice allows me to see all ages and a wide variety of conditions. It is OK to come in for a check-up even when nothing is wrong! In this increasingly complex world, it is hard to know everything. Twenty years of experience make it easier, and having the tremendous specialty help with Kaiser Permanente is reassuring. And even when there aren't answers there should still be caring and compassion.

Great health resources that I refer to:

Interests

I like to tell poeple that I collect coins, do stained glass, ride a motorcycle, and in my spare time I'm a doctor. Coin collecting is a way to hold little bits of history in your hand and learn about the past. My particular interest is medieval England coinage and history.
Stained glass is a fun way to combine colors and use light (and the imagination) to create art.
I started riding in 2006, and find that cruising the back roads of California is a wonderful way to explore our area. As a member of the Redwood Riders Motorcycle Club I participate in several charity 'runs' each year and have met some great friends. We are dedicated to positively promoting all aspects of motorcycling with an emphasis placed on safety and rider education.

Family & Friends

People in my life:

Although I am single, I am blessed with a loving partner who helps me through the usual ups and downs of life. She helps me find the balances (which I often talk about) between work and home, private time and social fun. It is a perspective that I feel we all need to seek.

My children and people I care about:

I am blessed with two great step-children. Both made it through college and into the working world. My son is working full time when not playing his guitar, hanging out with his friends, or playing with his '62 T-Bird.

Travel

An adventure I've had:

For Labor Day 2007 I rode my motorcycle with about 20 friends to Yosemite. The scenery is incredible! The freedom of riding is as close as you can get to flying while still staying on the ground with your eyes on the road.

Favorite place in the world:

Too many places, not enough time. The last few years of travel have included Bermuda, the Carribean, Victoria (Canada), Yosemite and Kings Canyon National Parks, as well as exploring local areas.

One of my recent trips:

I try to go to the American Academy of Family Phycians Scientific Assembly each year, partly because it is in a different part of the country each year and because of the excellent opportunity for medical education. In 2007 it was in Chicago, which is a wonderful city to visit.
