Highlights From Neighbors in Health 2008Over 520 Children Given Free Health CareKaiser Santa Rosa held its third 'Neighbors in Health' (NIH) event on Sunday, August 3, 2008. When registration began, the line numbered more than 100 people. When registration closed at 3 PM, more than 520 children had received a variety of health care services. Through this wonderful program, free health care was offered to uninsured children in Sonoma County. The immunization rooms were a busy, and ![]() Everyone enjoyed the healthy eating, active living festivities outdoors. There was music, food, and beverages. Many children received haircuts and were given bike helmets. In addition to enjoying all the fun, parents and children could further learn about and access other community services, including assistance applying for affordable medical insurance programs such as Healthy Kids in Sonoma County. And the collaboration with Community Action Partnership helped provide case management for acute referrals and follow-up plans through KidsNet. ![]() The gratitude on the people's faces told a much more powerful story. Parents were obviously concerned about the health of their children who did not have the resources to pay for health insurance. They clearly appreciated Kaiser Permanente stepping forward to provide care for their children. A hardy "thank you" goes to our volunteers who turned out in record numbers. More than 500 volunteers arrived to provide examinations, register participants, pack lunches, give vaccinations, keep the buildings clean, stock exam rooms, and provide care to many in our community. Kaiser Permanente gave back to our community today and the people receiving services deeply appreciated it!
Thank you to all our community partners: Community Action Partnership, CPI/CARE, Healthy Kids Sonoma County, Northern California Center for Well-Being, Redwood Community Health Coalition, Sonoma County Department of Health, Sonoma County Office of Education, Southwest Community Health Center, YMCA. |
