Bio

I was raised in South Florida and decided at an early age to follow in my father's footsteps and pursue a career in medicine. My father was a family practice doctor and through him I was introduced to the field of medicine. Some of my most valuable lessons came from watching my father as he helped others.

Although I loved Florida, my wander lust prevailed and so I headed off to Tulane in New Orleans for Medical School. I fell in love with both Tulane Medical School and the city of New Orleans. Attending Medical School was an exciting time in my life as both the education and life experiences were challenging and dynamic.

My interest in Dermatology began in medical school. I chose Dermatology for many reasons. I wanted to care for patients of all ages. I also wanted to have both a medical as well as a surgical practice. I felt the specialty of dermatology would be both challenging and rewarding and I have not been disappointed.

I have practiced Dermatology since 1991. I began my employment with Kaiser Permanente in 1993 in Oakland where I was Chief of the Dermatology Department. I transferred to Santa Rosa after the birth of my first child.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

As a Dermatologist, I specialize in skin diseases and currently have a broad range of practice. I take care of patients with a wide variety of medical conditions involving the skin, hair and nails. I am also trained as a dermatologic surgeon specializing in the removal of skin cancers as well as many cosmetic procedures. Although there are intellectual challenges in my specialty, it is the personal interactions that I have with my patients that truly inspire me.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

I am board certified by the American Board of Dermatology.

I stay current with my training by attending the annual dermatology conference sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology.

Family & Friends

People in my life:

I live in West Sonoma County with my husband and two children. I enjoy spending time with my family. I wear many hats, as many mothers do. I am a physician by day and a soccer mom and school fundraiser by night. My children and my husband are the true joys in my life.

My children and people I care about:

My daughter is an independent spirit who enjoys her friends, music and sports. Her brother is very fascinated by nature, and also loves baseball and reading.

An interesting story about my family or friends:

We took a recent trip to a remote town in Mexico which had no electricity or running water. It was an eye opening experience for my kids who until then had never been but a switch away from having light. They did without TV, computers and telephones and didn't miss these luxuries.

Travel

An adventure I've had:

My passion is traveling, and I love exploring the many exciting places in our world.

With the inspiration of my husband, I went on a year-long adventure through the Middle East and Asia before joining Kaiser Permanente. Experiences from those travels, and from other journeys, have broadened my view of our world and have strengthened my commitment to caring for others.

Favorite place in the world:

India has to be my favorite place in the world. It has retained much of its traditions and cultural heritage.

One of my recent trips:

Recently my family went to Ashland, Oregon. The highlight, besides the car breaking down, was seeing the play, "The Twelfth Night" by William Shakespeare.
