Bio

I especially enjoy seeing infants, children, teens and young families. Before practicing at Kaiser in Santa Rosa, I had the privilege of practicing OB, delivering many children and caring for them as they grew. I no longer practice obstetrics, but delight in caring for newborns, children and their parents. It is what makes family practice the great joy it is for me!

I am a native Northern Californian and a fan of Sonoma County. I have enjoyed exploring the planet, living on St. Thomas, sailing and scuba diving in the Caribbean, studying abroad in London and Paris, and traveling around the United States. The delight of returning home, though, never fades! The allure of the land, fresh and varied produce, opportunity to hike and bike, and live with others in this community are gifts. It is a place that supports a healthy and interesting life.

I attended UC Davis and London University for my undergraduate education with degree in Food Science, minor emphasis in music. Next, I studied for a Master of Public Health with an emphasis in business at San Diego State University. I attended medical school at UC Davis, one year of residency in pathology at Kaiser in San Francisco and 3 years of residency in Family Practice at UCSF affiliated Sutter Santa Rosa Family Practice Residency.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

Family practice provides the special opportunity to get to know entire families and provide family centered care.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

I especially enjoy seeing infants, children, teens and women. I delivered babies for many years and watching children grow is a great privelege. I continue to care for youngsters and thoroughly enjoy it.

Current projects or research:

I am Chief of the Health Education Department. This allows me to be part of a team that works hard to empower patients and equip them with the skills they need to better take care of themselves. Excellent lifestyle and nutrition can help many prevent and limit the impacts of illnesses. What more could a doctor ask for than to be part of this empowering team - especially within an organization like Kaiser that truly wants the community to thrive!

Great health resources that I refer to:

Please visit the Health Education Centers, located in Suite 145 in the West Building on the main Santa Rosa campus or on the first floor of the Stein Building, 3925 Old Redwood Highway, Santa Rosa. Sign up for secure messaging while you are there.

A great book is "Child of Mine", by Ellyn Satter, with practical advice about getting your child's nutritional health off to a great start.

An interesting story from my training:

While spending time in Oaxaca, Mexico, I learned that first world medicine does not easily translate to effective care in other places. One day, I went out looking for a family whose child was infected with Hepatitis C. Finally, I found them in a busy part of town, where the family was selling homemade crafts. The baby was hard to spot, but I found him sleeping soundly in a hammock in nearby trees. The family showered him with love, though they did not have clean shower water at home. They were doing the best they could and there was little to add to their care. I was humbled by how they rose to meet all of the challenges they faced. They inspired me.

Family & Friends

People in my life:

My parents inspire me, make me laugh and are always ready to have fun. I am fortunate to have grown up with these two heads of state.

My children and people I care about:

When I am not taking care of children and grown-ups in the office, I am enjoying the company of my own young daughters. I have a keen interest in child development and enjoy watching my daughters' development unfold before me! Never a dull moment in a household with small children.

An interesting story about my family or friends:

Ah, they are only told to those who seek them in the office...

Travel

An adventure I've had:

Hiking through a lightning storm high atop the Canadian Rockies is a trip I will never forget. Every thing we could see was bigger and louder than life.

Favorite place in the world:

There are too many places in the world that can qualify. Depending on the day, I may chose a city like London with fabulous history and art, and the next, Yosemite.

One of my recent trips:

I go for my first vacation since starting at Kaiser next week. Have to say, don't get out as often as I would like anymore! Luckily, most patients are entertaining!
