Bio

I was born in Queens, New York, in 1964. When I was two, my family moved to Huntington, Long Island where I spent my childhood in our house on Maxwell Court.

I was the middle of three daughters, Lisa, Marjorie, and Debra. My mother's name is Edith Kelvin, and Dad is Allan Kelvin. Mom was a school teacher turned therapist and Interfaith minister. Dad was a human factors Psychologist turned therapist. Our family motto was always, "Family comes first."

Much of my childhood was spent enjoying the abundance of New York City, seeing as many Broadway shows as we could. Our home was always filled with good friends, delicious food, and song, mother playing the piano while we all sang.

We lost our mother nearly two years ago, and miss her so much. She was generous, always cooking her fabulous meals for our family and friends, always leaving enough food and a place at the table for anyone who was hungry or needed a family. She was brilliant, could do the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle in a heartbeat and had the wisdom and insight of a sage. She lived with my daughter and me during the last seven years of her life, enriching the lives of anyone she touched.

I attended Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. I loved medical school. It has been said that you can take the girl out of New York, but you can't take New York out of the girl!

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

It is no surprise that I became a Family Practitioner. "Family comes first" extends from my family life to my professional life.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

My area of greatest interest within my specialty is helping my patients to find their own personal empowerment. The intellectual and diagnostic aspect of being a physician has been second nature to me for a long time. Through working with my patients over many years, I have been privileged to know so many courageous people. Every day I develop a deeper understanding of our humanity, and feel that working in the world in this way is a gift and an honor.

Current projects or research:

My current projects include raising my daughter and raising myself! Every life is a work in progress.

Interests

I spent much of my early childhood in the theater, both as a patron and an actor. I love to put on theater, and sing my heart out.

I enjoy ballet classes, and hope to study jazz and modern dance as well.

In my spare time, I enjoy old homes, art, antiques and Persian rugs.

Family & Friends

People in my life:

My significant other, for close to a decade, is artisan/builder William Galli. He is the most grounded, patient, kind and creative human being. I feel blessed every day to have Bill as a friend and partner.

My children and people I care about:

I have one child, Olivia, soon to turn 13 years old! She is my light, my inspiration and my heart.

My pets:

Four years ago, I became a parent of two little pug puppies named Bonnie and Buster. Last year I adopted a puppy who was a mix of a border collie and a Blue Heeler. His name is Pumpkin. He is an intelligent and loving red head! I didn't need any more dogs, but visited my friend who had a litter of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. We adopted Sophie and Simon. They all make me smile and laugh, and have taught me the true meaning of unconditional love.
