Andra Sandberg, Staff Nurse IV in the Maternal Child Health Nursing Unit

Why I Chose Nursing

As a child, I did surgeries on caterpillars and injected calla lilies with fountain pens and vegetable dye to change their color. My aunt saw the nurse in me.

An Interesting Part of My Job

I am honored to be a staff RN in MCH and RN Quality Liaison, which enables me to focus work time on patient safety and quality issues and the bigger picture.

Biography

A diploma RN since 1969, I went back to nursing school and earned my BSN in 1995. As a young nurse, I served in the Peace Corps in Iran, working in 2 rural villages, developing Maternal/Child clinics. My nursing passion is working with families, especially those having babies. As a lactation educator, I am committed to facilitating breastfeeding and increasing our breastfeeding rates and support at Kaiser. I volunteer in the Hearts in Hand Prayer Ministry through the Center for Spiritual Living, and provide telephone and hospital visit prayer support.
