The Nursing Research Council was formed in 2004 by a group of staff nurses and managers who were interested in promoting evidence-based practice in the clinical setting. Current projects include evidence-based practice performance improvement projects, classes for staff related to literature searching and critique, an annual nursing research symposium for local staff nurses, and a research study related to noise reduction in the acute care setting. Several other facility-based research studies are in the process of being developed.

Goals and Functions of the Nursing Research Council

This quote has guided the committee since its inception:

"In dwelling on the importance of sound observation, it must never be lost sight of what observation is for. It is not for the sake of piling up miscellaneous information or curious facts, but for the sake of saving life and increasing health and comfort."

--Florence Nightingale
