Bio

The Department of Urology offers medical and surgical care for disorders of the genitourinary system. There are 80 urologists in the Northern California Permanente Medical Group. This allows us to provide comprehensive and consultative in-depth current urological care.

We work closely with our other colleagues in the Santa Rosa Medical Center to provide integrative and personal care to all of our patients. I hope you find this site and the web links helpful and informative. I find the healthy life styles link great for improving your overall well being.

I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and went to college at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. I received my MD degree at the Medical University of South Carolina, the fourth generation Palmer to do so. My internship and residency in Urology was spent at the University of Texas at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. I spent one year at the MD Anderson Cancer and Tumor Institute during my residency training.

I joined the Department of Urology at the San Francisco Kaiser Permanente facility after finishing my training in 1982. I became chief of that department in 1988. I subsequently became chief of the Department of Urology in Santa Rosa when we moved here in 1991. I am Board Certified in Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. I am a member of the American Urological Association and the Sonoma County Medical Society. I am listed in the year 2001 edition of "Who's Who" in America.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

My father was a physician, and my grandfather founded the section of rectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic in 1918. My great uncle and cousin are urologists. My great, great grandfather graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1877 exactly 100 years before I graduated. Therefore, as I grew up, there was only one expectation of me. Through this early and long exposure to the practice of medicine, I learned this was the path for me.

Family & Friends

People in my life:

I am married and have 2 children.

My pets:

We have a number of pets including: a dog, cat, turtle, rabbit, and 2 snakes.

Travel

An adventure I've had:

My family enjoys traveling and exploring the United States. We have visited the majority of the National parks in the West. Yellowstone is our favorite; it's even better in the winter. We enjoyed the hiking in Zion, and the Tetons. Actually, every park had outstanding features.

We traveled the South and especially enjoyed Charleston, S.C., the outerbands of North Carolina and Williamsburg, Virginia.

Next on our agenda is the Northeast, Midwest, then we are going to bust out of our borders to Canada and Mexico.
