Bio

I was born in Burma and moved to San Francisco with my family when I was 13 years old. Upon graduating from high school, I went to San Francisco State University where I studied Biology and was active in the "Pre-Health Professional Student Association," volunteered at UCSF & SF General Hospitals and worked with a private ophthalmologist collecting data for intra-ocular lens implant research.

After graduating from SFSU, I attended optometry school at the Southern California College of Optometry, where I had internships at the Center for the Partially Sighted, a VA Outpatient Clinic and Norton AFB.

Upon graduation from optometry school, I joined the US Navy as an optometrist at the Naval Hospital San Diego . In addition to optometrist duties and contact lens exams, I was also the head of the optometry clinic at the North Island Naval Air Station on Coronado, and the optometry intern coordinator. It was during my time in San Diego when I earned the Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) designation. I had many interesting experiences while in the Navy including spending a few weeks out at sea performing eye exams for the crew on the USS Kitty Hawk and USS Constellation aircraft carriers as well as performing an eye exam for retired rear admiral and vice presidential candidate James Stockdale.

After leaving the Navy I moved back to San Francisco and worked at the California Pacific Medical Center eye clinic, where I earned Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease (TMOD) & Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agent (TPA) certificates. It was at CMPC that I had my first opportunity to observe LASIK eye surgery performed by San Francisco ophthalmologist, Dr. Daniel Goodman.

In 1998 I joined Kaiser in Santa Rosa, where I currently perform general optometry, contact lens, and low-vision exams as well as the treatment and management of red-eye, pre- and post-op LASIK and post-op cataracts. While at Kaiser I earned a Glaucoma therapeutic certificate.
