BioAfter finishing an internship in internal medicine I was not certain whether I wanted to continue in that specialty. I volunteered to work in a physician shortage area for the Public Health Service in rural Montana for two years. That experience convinced me that I wanted to continue as a family physician. I returned to California to finish my training in family practice here in Santa Rosa, at what was then Community Hospital. I was in private practice for a short period of time but did not like the direction it was going and joined Kaiser Permanente in 1985. I have been here since. I enjoy being able to give comprehensive care to my patients which is evidenced-based and not pressured by special interest groups (such as drug companies). | |

More details about my specialty:I enjoy the wide spectrum of care and getting to know the whole family that comes with being a family physician. Since 1985, I have also taken care of HIV infected and AIDS patients, and 2 years ago became board certified as an HIV specialist. |

An adventure I've had:In 2000, I had the opportunity of attending the international AIDS conference in Durban, South Africa. Before the conference I had a chance to see some of the sub-Sahara African continent. It was beautiful but at the same time so sad to realize that up to one-third of the population was infected with a deadly virus. One of my recent trips:More recently we have been visiting the Gulf Islands in British Columbia where we have friends. They remind us alot of Sonoma County. |
